The Claravis Foundation for the Conservation of the Atlantic Rainforest and its Species

Claravis Foundation is a fieldwork-specific NGO dedicated to the conservation crisis of the birds of the Atlantic Rainforest founded by Parque das Aves. It takes advantage of the institutional strengths of Parque das Aves, leveraging a high-quality integrated strategic approach to maximise conservation impact in the wild.

This creates a very low-cost body of field projects, ensuring high cost-benefit for all fieldwork actions and for all donations.

All donations and support of Claravis Foundation go exclusively to in-situ wildlife conservation projects in multiple Brazilian states, always firmly with an eye to improving the status of population in the wild and preventing extinction, using solid, gold-standard methodology.

Claravis Foundation is named after the Purple-barred Ground-dove, Claravis geoffroyi, a species which was local to the forests around Parque das Aves, and which appears to have gone extinct in recent years due to the increasing fragmentation of Atlantic Rainforest. Parque das Aves decided that, given the scale of the problem, and as a bird conservation organisation situated in Atlantic Rainforest, the right ethical decision to make was to focus on the birds of this biome. We are determined to make the loss of Claravis count for something.

We have deliberately chosen to create an NGO of a category subject to the highest possible scrutiny: The finances of Foundations in Brazil are federally audited, administered by independent accountants, and available for public perusal.
